Youth Services Manager
Pay: $17.25 negotiable with experience
40 hours/week, some nights and Saturdays/plus benefits

Do you love kids and have the education and skills to work in a library setting? The Monticello-Union Township Public Library has an opening for a full time Youth Services Manager. This position is part of the management team which works directly with the Director. This position is required to have or be able to obtain a Librarian Certificate 5 from the State of Indiana, which includes 9 hours of college level Library Science credit. Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science preferred.

Job Summary: Purchase all children and teen materials, provide children and teen programming, and assist customers with their use of the library.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Select and oversee the collection of materials, weeding, and inventory for youth patrons including all print and non-print items
Maintain current knowledge of children and teen authors and artists
Evaluate requests for new materials and donated materials for inclusion in the collection
Supervise the
continuous collection development and inventory of all youth materials
Schedule, plan, and deliver programs for children and teens
Supervise processing and cataloging of all juvenile materials
Manage youth department budgets including bills for materials and a monthly budget
Hire, supervise, and evaluate youth department staff

Supervision: Board of Trustees 
Job Summary: Responsible for the daily operation of the library. 
Hours: Full time (40 hrs. per week) 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Plans, implements, and evaluates library services 
Ensures that all customers are greeted and helped in a polite and friendly manner
Develops, implements, and evaluates long and short term goals and objectives
Develops and administers policies concerning library operations, 
budgets, and programs 
Handles complaints in accordance with policy 
Provides supervision and delegates responsibilities to the library staff
Recruits and recommends employment of library personnel; recommends promotions, transfers, or termination of staff 
Organizes, trains, assigns and evaluates personnel and volunteers 
Conducts staff meetings 
Prepares the annual budget and presents and defends budget requests before the Library Board. 
Directs and controls the expenditure of fund allocations within constraints of approved budgets. 
Purchases new equipment and furnishings 
Accepts and acknowledges gifts of money and library materials 
Pursues and applies for grant money 
Prepares monthly and annual financial and statistical reports to Library Board  and State Library 
Attends monthly Board of Trustee meetings 
Supervises maintenance of library building, equipment, and furnishings
Oversees equipment, furnishings, and budget of book collections 
Cooperates with community groups and town officials to implement library services
Speaks before local groups 
Keeps informed of current developments in the library field by attending workshops and  professional meetings, and reading current literature 
Maintains membership in professional organizations 
Provides reference and reader's advisory services to patrons as needed Performs other related responsibilities as necessary such as circulation Attends and participates in staff, department, and other job-related meetings. Deposits cash/checks as needed 
Completes internal controls training on an annual basis
Adheres to Staff Code of Ethics/Conduct 
Perform other duties as assigned with alternative  scheduling with online webinars, technology training, and at home short/long term  projects with an executive stay-at-home order during a pandemic 
During a pandemic management will assist in being in the building, as allowed, for limited  hours, to maintain the business obligations of the library 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required for Job: 

A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university plus five (5)  years of progressively responsible library administration experience including at least three  (3) years in a supervisory capacity. 
Must have Librarian Certificate 2. 
Excellent communication skills and organizational skills 
Ability to administer the activities of a public library and to supervise the work of others 
Ability to develop short and long term development plans and objectives 
Honest, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality 
Maintains knowledge of standard library principles and practices; concepts of freedom of  speech, copyrights, collection development, patron confidentiality, censorship, and other  library ethical issues 
Proficiency with computers, popular library software, internet, and digital communications
Thorough ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors,  subordinates, associates, officials of other agencies, and the general public

Library Circulation Clerk
Part-time, days, $10.00 per hour
21 hrs/week, rotating schedule, some Saturdays 

Must have a high school diploma/GED, basic keyboarding and computer skills, and be willing to learn new technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform circulation desk duties, including, but not limited to, checking materials in and out, shelving materials, processing holds, and registering patrons for library cards
Answer patron reference, procedural and directional questions accurately either in person or on the telephone
Assist and instruct patrons in use of library services
Answer and direct telephone calls
Demonstrate exemplary customer service skills
Assist patrons with computer questions, especially with Microsoft Office programs
