DESCRIPTION:The kora is a 21 stringed West African harp and is traditionall
 y played by oral historians known as Griots. Many songs featured on the ko
 ra preserve an 800 year history dating back to the founding of the Mande e
 mpire.\n\nAnd now\, the very instrument has made its way to Monticello wit
 h Sean Gaskell! He studied under the extensive instruction of Moriba Kuyat
 eh and the late Malamini Jobarteh in Gambia\, and both Youssoupha Cissokho
  and Mamadou Cissokho in Senegal. Gaskell has presented adult\, youth\, an
 d family programs at over 400 libraries and a multitude of k-12 schools\, 
 colleges\, universities and assisted living facilities throughout the Unit
 ed States and Canada.\n\nJoin us at 3:00pm on September 5th in the Art & S
