Library Card Sign-Up Month
The Monticello-Union Township Public Library will join with the American Library Association and other public libraries nationwide this month for Library Card Sign Up Month.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries join together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. For students, a library card is essential.
A library card provides access to e-books, homework help and a multitude of online research tools and resources for their studies. Resources at the Monticello-Union Township Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Patrons can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Students can use their library cards from home, too. Our library offers access to important educational resources, like e-books, online homework help, and the INSPIRE resource center.
In celebration of Library Card Sign-Up Month, the library staff will dress up in different themes during the month on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Visit our Facebook page to vote for the staff member with the best costume or come in to vote. Don’t have a library card? Sign up for a new card during September and be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.
