Youth Services Manager
Part-Time $16 - 17/hr Full-time 40 hrs a week plus benefits

Do you love kids and have the education and skills to work in a library setting? If so, we are seeking a Full Time Youth Services Manager. This position is a part of our management team which works directly with the Director. Bachelor’s Degree required including 9 hours of college level Library Science credit or additional hours obtained after the bachelor’s. Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science preferred. Experience in early childhood, sense of humor and library experience is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities: Partial List

  • Select and oversee the collection of materials, weeding, and inventory for youth patrons including all print and non-print items
  • Maintain current knowledge of children and teen authors and artists
  • Evaluate requests for new materials and donated materials for inclusion in the collection
  • Supervise the continuous collection development and inventory of all Youth Materials
  • Schedule, plan, and deliver programs for children and teens
  • Plan and execute the activities of the annual Summer Reading Program
  • Provide outreach programs to school classes, organizations, daycares, and special interest groups
  • Promote Early Literacy through workshops and other initiatives
  • Conduct library tours and provide programs for school classes, organizations, and special interest groups

·Work to support local school curriculum

  • Familiarity with the methods, materials, policies, practices, and procedures of children and teen library work
  • Considerable knowledge of book classification, reference tools, and young readers
  • Basic knowledge of keyboarding and computer skills
  • Honest, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems
  • Willingness to try new ways of doing old things
  • Supervisory skills required
  • Ability to work independently with an aptitude for detail work
  • Experience working in libraries
